Coaches Profiles & Season Goals

Rick Thompson
Rick originates from Long Island, NY where he played 3 years of high school lacrosse and two years of club ball at college in upstate, Oswego, NY. Having played attack and middie, Rick is knowledgeable in stick handling skills, offensive & defensive strategy, and playmaking. He has previous coaching experience with youth soccer and as an assistant the past two years with the 7/8 Kirkland boys lacrosse team under the tutelage of Jim Anderson. Rick's goals for the 3/4 Black team are to:
• Teach the boys good fundamental skills
• Basic Offensive and Defensive positions and movement
• And to have FUN so the boys come back for more!

Mike Rogers
Mike grew up in Okemos, MI where he lettered in football, track and swimming, and played baseball and tennis in high school. While in college at the University of Michigan he played flag football, ultimate, basketball and rugby. Having never played lacrosse before, Mike will use his experience from playing and coaching other sports and transition those skills to lacrosse. Mike has coached football, baseball, soccer and his son’s flag football teams. Mike’s goals for the 3/4 Black team are to:
• Teach the importance of teamwork and fun
• Assist kids in transitioning skills learned in other sports to lacrosse
• Keep the kids excited and engaged while learning new skills

Peter Zalkind
Growing up back East just outside of Boston, Peter can remember owning a lacrosse stick since 4th grade. He focused on soccer, ice hockey, and baseball through high school, but played club lacrosse for many years. At Claremont McKenna College in southern CA, he played football as a wide receiver and kicker/punter. With two very active boys, Peter has coached soccer, baseball, flag football, basketball, and now lacrosse. Peter’s goals for the 3/4 Black team are to:
• Provide an environment for learning and growth
• Build confidence through repetition and success
• Make fun a priority
